Rivington Arms is pleased to present V. L. and other pseudonyms or while my hair grows longer, a photographic exhibition of new works by Benedicte Sehested.
Sehested explores the reproduction process of photography. By re-photographing appropriated material Sehested reinterprets and contextualizes the origin of her chosen images, forcing the viewer to question the validity of a photograph and our collective understanding of the representation of a given image.
Sehested’s works often carry the subtleties of an unknown story, objects and portraits become equally abstracted, emphasizing the photographs visual autonomy.
Sehested graduated with her Meisterschuler from Professor Simon Starling at the Städelschule in 2007. This is Sehested’s first solo show in New York.
